ERIC
Re-cutting the footage for Eric was quite an interesting exercise. After going through the rushes I found myself being seduced by the performance and I was carving a story out of the emotions they were demonstrating.
Whilst this seemed like a reasonable path to go down, it didn't really feel like the thing I was writing in edit was coming from a place of my own.
I was so determined to not let the footage guide me, but for me to take the footage anywhere that I could, that would be true of my voice.
I wound up with Eric, getting stuck in a kind of time loop. Whilst I'm not 100% happy with the editing (I did have a broken collar bone!) I'm very happy that I was able to create something completely unique, and get almost to a place of an artifact that I was proud of.
It was a real treat to get to work with the composers on this one. I got to brief Brent in, trying really hard to use non music descriptors. And the track he made blew me away.
